Robe’s Best Off Leash Beaches…..

Robe loves dogs!  I’m not joking, we do.  We’ve got dog friendly cafes with dog friendly menus, complimentary water bowls, retail leash hitches and one of just about every breed of purebred and motley mix you can think of.  We’ve even had a reality TV show filmed here a couple of years back and there were just about as many dogs in the ‘rent-a-crowd’ as there were people! (For those that can’t help but Google – ‘When Love Comes to Town, Nine Network’ – sorry BillyBob 🙂)

With all this doggo love around the village you’ve got no reason to leave your four legged family member crying at home while you head to Robe for a beach holiday.  Happyshack have a tidy selection of Robe pooch friendly holiday houses for you to choose from and with off leash restrictions not applying until the 1st of December now is the perfect time to escape to Robe.

We’d like to take a moment to introduce you to Frank.  Frank is the Happyshack mascot, a dearly loved family member and, by his own account, a bit of a beach aficionado.  We always like to call in an expert for our ‘Robe’s Best’ blogs so, here is Frank’s list of  ‘The Best Off Leash Beaches in Robe’:

  1. West Beach – Looking out across the wild Southern Ocean with the wind in your ears and the soft, perfectly cut sand beneath your paws makes West Beach a great spot for dogs and their humans.  It’s not a ‘swimming beach’ so you’ll rarely come across many other people and yet it’s right in the heart of some of Robes best walking trails.  West Beach is Frank’s No.1 because it’s town central, on the walking trail and is off leash friendly all day every day!
  2. Hoopers Beach – This gentle, sheltered beach is perfect for the less ‘rugged’ style paw patrol.  Low tides expose rock pools and reefs, perfect for snuffling and exploring and is safe for young families as well.  Off leash friendly except from 9am to 8pm Dec 1 to the end of Easter.
  3. Long Beach – Long Beach is a Robe icon.  It’s an icon because of it’s length (12kms) but also because it’s one of the few SA beaches that you can still drive your car down onto.  It’s great for the family and even better for a good old, flat out, kick you off the ute tray run for those ‘working style’ dogs.  Ears back, stride out, sic ’em seagulls type beach. We need not remind you that car savvy is a super important dog trait for this one!  Off leash North of Third Ramp all the time, between Third Ramp and Second Ramp (where you drive down) all the time except from 9am to 8pm Dec 1 to the end of Easter.
  4. Wrights Bay – Half way between Robe and Kingston is Mount Benson and Wrights Bay.  A gentle, calm bay area with exposed reefs, beautiful sunsets and plenty of great sniffing spots.  There is also a pet friendly camping area right next door with grassy sites and a long drop (no power or showers, $4.50 per night).  Off leash all day, every day.

So there you have it.  The best of Robe’s Off Leash Beaches, yet another reason for you to pack the car and head on down to Robe, South Australia’s Favourite Seaside Town.
